'Several killed' in Baghdad blast
A bomb targeting labourers in the same area last
year killed at least 57 people [AFP]
At least 10 people have been killed and more than 60
injured after a car bomb exploded in Baghdad, police
and hospital officials have said.
The blast occured at around 1pm (10:00 GMT) in the
popular Bab al-Sharji market near the city's Tayaran
Square - a part of central Baghdad that has been
targeted by fighters in the past.
Many of the victims of Friday's blast were civilians,
with at least one woman and one child reportedly among
the dead.
The area was at the time full of shoppers heading home
after Friday prayers.
Security forces sealed off the area, which is close to
the Iraqi interior ministry and houses one of
Baghdad's main bus stations, AFP reported.
A double car bombing in the same area in January this
year left more than 80 people dead.
And in December last year a bomb targeting mainly Shia
labourers killed at least 57 people.
