DB deputy commissioner (south) of DMP Monirul Islam told a press conference on Friday said that they arrested the fake policemen in a special raid conducted in front of Meghna Petrol Pump on Thursday night. They were identified as Mohammad Shamim, 35, Mohammad Yasin alias Shahid, 38, Kazi Motaleb, 38, Mohammad Azizul, 35, Mohammad Monnu Mia, 35, Mohammad Mozaffar, 38, Mohammad Amir Hossain, 35, Mohammad Selim, 35, Mohammad Nesar Ali, 30, and Mohammad Nasir, 30. The police also seized a uniform set, three pairs of handcuff, three wireless sets, two choppers, two daggers, six rounds of ammunition, three cocktails and two cars. Three of the group managed to escape. Islam said the arrestees in primary interrogation admitted that they were long involved in hijacking microbuses and private cars under the guise of DB policemen and snatching valuables from their passengers. They also admitted that they have so far committed at least 70 such crimes. The hundi (illegal money transfer) businessmen were their main targets.
