I actually routed a board using Protels autorouter with close to 1000
components including a 901, 600, 432, and 388 BGA  and many QFP's on 6 
routing layers. Also routed it using Specctra since the design needed 128 
nets routed differentially.

Spectra was able to do the diff pairs for the LVPECL nets fairly well. But 
the Protel board looked nicer since it's not limited to orthogonal routing. 
Protel routed it in about an hour. I'd have to agree that Specctra has more 
capability (the limit on Protel is around 2000 components).

Very few issues with the translation to and from Specctra, even on a board 
this complex.

I can send screen shots of these if anyone's interested...
