Mike, If I understand what you're trying to achieve, try this: Select the Mech layer you wish to delete by either clicking on the layer tab or cycling through the layers using the + or - key. As a precautionary measure use hot keys X, A to deselect all. Use the hot keys S, Y (for Select laYer) and all the items on the Mech layer should be selected. Use Ctrl+Del to delete the selection.
