     procedure after calling casereader_read()?  I'm not sure that
     this really belongs in the case_reader: currently it doesn't have
     any knowledge about what's in the data it's dealing with.

Or perhaps we could provide a wrapperr_function around
casereader_read.  Anyway, I suppose this ought to wait until after the
current reorganisation.  I'm going to file a bug on this issue, so that it
doesn't get forgotten.
