Hi!
As you probably have figured out by now, there wasn't much truth in
the "Good times" announcement. But there are a few things I'd like to
comment.
The patch was somewhat buggy. But that's to be expected with such a
tight deadline ;-) There are two problems that I'm now aware of
(identifying them is left as an exercise for the curious reader...).
I don't know who invented the orwellian phrase "balanced privacy". I
actually found it in Stefan Brands' thesis, which I'd like to quote.
Epilogue, page 232:
"Waving the magic key escrow wand is the quickest way to success
whenever more honorable approaches to improve a line of research
are unsuccessful. By radically changing the model to key escrow,
the researcher all of a sudden finds him or herself in the
luxurious position of being able to claim and glorify new security
benefits and features. At the same time, the key escrow smoke
screen enables the researcher to downplay the annihilation of
privacy by claiming that the new system provides "balanced"
privacy; many authors do not even shy from claiming that their key
escrow systems "preserve" or even "improve" privacy.
I'm not switching jobs (see http://www.lysator.liu.se/~nisse/cv.html
for some details). And as far as I know, Sectra doesn't use or
advocate key-escrow.
Happy hacking,
/Niels
