Well, when I started writing LSH in late August 1998 (which was a week
or so after the specs for ssh2 were released, IIRC), there was *no*
free software that supported ssh2, as far as I'm aware. I'm not sure
the openssh project existed either (on the other hand, I think
openssh's predecessor, ossh, was available).

And I don't think it's time to disbandon LSH quite yet.

We'll see what happens. If nothing else, I hope openssh's support for
ssh2 (whenever that is actually released) will help promote the ssh2
protocol, both in the Real World and in the IETF standards process,
which seems pretty stuck at the moment. Having a few independent
implementations of a protocol is a good thing.

I'm sure a technical comparison between lsh and openssh could be
interesting, but I'll leave that for others, as I'm (i) biased, and
(ii) not terribly familiar with openssh.

Happy hacking,
/Niels
