It sounds like anything running with macky protocol is the way for you so.
Yes, the RME DSP chip on the unit can remember settings, and I would imagine
the same shortcuts for bringing presets on windows would also work on the
mac.
Either way, having the control surface setup to control total mix would be a
great tool to have as an option depending on what you want to do.
I'm not certain of the differences between your total mix software and the
total mix FX for my unit, but on mine there are 4 pre-amps on the unit, and
their phantom power is switched individually per in put either on the units
digital menus or via the input section of total mix, so a short cut for that
would be fantastic.
If I make some contact with RME I'll let you know as it may be useful to
you.

Like you mentioned, I don't have luck with Total Mix either. However, I
can at least switch preset with shortcuts.
Also, Fireface control panel is accessible with Jaws on Windows to make
some changes like Phantom power, latency, and so on. I wonder if the
settings will stay if you change them on Windows and connect to Mac.

Especially with PT 9 being open, RME stuff is a great and cheap way to
get 0 latency monitoring (well one sample latency) and it will work great
with sonar too for those who want to keep up on both.
So yeah, I'd recommend you get somethingg that will help you take
advantage of the RME total mix features too, because it's a very cool
thing to be able to control and have at your disposal if you are setting
up monitor mixes, using outboard gear or all kinds of things.
Apologies if you already know all this, and or if you have somehow gained
accessability with the RME total mix software with jaws, please do tell!

Hi,
I finally decided to buy a mac to learn Protool. After going through
list archive, it seems like control surface makes a lot easier for us to
use Protool.
I'm looking at a few choices, and I'm wondering if someone can help me
to choose a right equipment. Digi 003, M-Audio ProjectMix I/O, Mackie
Control Universal Pro, Euphonix Artist Mix, and Digidesign Command 8
I'm looking for something less than $1500. Also, It's not critical, but
I'd love to be able to use it on Windows as well since I haven't
entirely given up on Sonar yet. Also hopefully on Logic when Logic
becomes more accessible. I have RME fireface 800, so the audio interface
combo is not a huge factor.
Would any of them fit my criteria?
Lastly, can you get Protool 9 with Digi 003? It seems like Digi 003
comes with Protool 8 LE.
