Yes Protools is accessible for editing audio as well as midi. I would 
recommend using PT 9 with Snow Leopard, as it is the most stable so far. 
You have to fully understand the basic principles of ProTools (its concept 
of: timeline, edit cursor and regions) in order to make the most of it.
All though we are all waiting for a major update promised by Avid, it is 
the most accessible for the visually impaired in audio and midi software on 
the Mac platform.
