Thanks for the info Mat!

Below is a little note I made myself to get into midi editing. It's kind of 
what Mat said below. I'm using PT 9. Hope this helps anyone starting out.

Tabbing through midi notes

In order to find a track you wish to work on hold control and use P for up and 
semi colon for down. Note, voice over does not say what track your on so you'll 
have to count down. P gets you to track one and then semi colon will scroll 
down through your tracks.
Once on your desired track
Go to cursor tool cluster, interact
Go to tab to transients and select with VO spacebar
uninteract and find track you wish to use in the edit window
interact with it and go to track view selector
select pop up menu with VO Spacebar and select note or velocity
select it with VO Spacebar
Uninteract with the track
use tab or option tab to scroll through selected track midi notes

The info Mat suggested works along with this.
