Hey john yes, i did give that a go earlier today, but it just seems to allow me
to monitor the input at all times.so when the transport is stopped the input
still comes through. For some reason i can not seem to record in this mode. not
sure why.

I guess what i am needing is a way to turn off the input sauce when actually
recording. so you don’t hear what is coming in this is not a problem when using
a proper interface like presonis or motu, or what ever, but i did encounter a
problem when using the alan and heath z 18 today. this is a basic annalogue
desk with u s b capabilities. So you can plug your computer in to it and start
recording. I have used a pc with this desk and used programs like sound forge ,
and studio recorder. these programs to my knoledge do not let you hear the
input at all, so the problem is not there. In sonar on a pc, you can enable or
disable the inputut monitoring, they call it input echo, so this task could be
achieved easily, But i can't see a way of doing this in protools short of
muting the track when you record. If you are recording a voice track, and want
to do a lot of punching in and out, this would be really hard to carry out.

It’s a strange one, and as i said before, in my studio at home here, i would
not want to work this way, but need to with certain equipment.
