There are several good books out there on apple script as well as great
websites you can learn form. I suggest reading up on it a bit more to fully
understand its grasp and what you may or may not be able to do with it. Most
Mac centric programs do have built in apple script hooks so its easier to write
a script to do certain things. However this isn’t found in most cross platform
apps so it may be a bit harder to control them with apple script. There is a
way to check to see if an app is apple script friendly or not and the
aforementioned reading i suggested can help you figure that part out. As for
plug in’s writing plug ins is not an easy task and can’t be done in apple
script. Well perhaps something simple and probably only in AU format. If you
don’t mind learning python (another scripting language) reaper and it’s JS
effects are probably a simple enough place to start and has plenty of code to
examine.

Most AAX plug ins that are free that i encountered l lately did require a iLok,
Not sure if this is a recent change but i can’t think of any i heard of in the
new AAX 64 bit format that are free and doesn’t require an iLok.
