Chad, Did you uncheck the box in the Automation section of the Mixing tab of the Preference window that says "Plug-in Controls Default to Auto-Enabled?" Even if you have at some point, make sure it's not checked. Further, if it was checked, that means you have automation written to the plug-in. You'll have to get rid of the automation. I've described this in great detail before. Perhaps somebody has a copy of that message and could post it.
