I'd avoid Macfuse like the plaigue! The last time I used it it not only
crashed my drive, but it made it so unusable, that even taking it to a
forensics lab I know of here in the area, they! couldn't even recover the data,
nor repartition/format it for me. Just to see if it was just coencidental that
maybe that drive was out anyway, I tried with a second drive which frankly, if
it totally fried, I wouldn't a been too worried about. Sure enough, it diddit
to that drive as well.

NTFS for mac however I've had very good success with.

Chris.

ah, ok. There are some apps you can get, Paragon NTFS for mac being the first
that comes to mind. Mac Fuse may also work. These are NTFS filesystem drivers
for the mac which may work, but I don’t recommend using them. They can, at
times, be a little unstable. But perhaps worth a shot.

I know I can do that, but I didn’t want to have to back up a TB worth of
info to another drive before I format it. I didn’t know if there was another
way to change it from read only mode.
    Thanks anyway though.

reformat the drive from NTFS to XFat or Mac OS Extended using disk utility.

I have an external drive that I used on a windows system for many years

around from the drive to the Mac or vice versa what do I need to do here?
      Thanks
