I wrote a huge message about why I hate Avids new artist line of control surfaces. If I'm not mistaken, the s6 is included in that artist line, using the Eucon protocol.

I'll give you the readers digest version below.

Firstly, I hate the Eucon protocol.
In my opinion, it runs completely in the face of the streamed-line workflow that Pro Tools has always been known for. Instead of updating an open standard, or building a new one, they bought Euphonic and clumsily incorporated it into their setup.

The Eucon control panel has to be running at all times for these mixers to work inside of PT. Yaye. 1 more app to crash for whatever reason, bringing down your daw like a house of cards.

If you are using more than 1 unit, get ready to set up a router just for these devices. As expensive as these devices are, they didn't have the forethought to incorporate a 1 port Ethernet switch into the guts of the device so you could daisy chain devices.

Luckily, the control panel for Eucon is accessible, at least it was 2 years ago. You could map keys and change basic settings.

Many users are buying used command 8's. Luckily, that protocol is still available, even in PT 12.

I went the Mackie Control route because it works. I really don't care about fader flip that much.

In my opinion, This whole Eucon thing is where avid went off the rails on a lazy train. Instead of building something great, they bought and bolted on something inferior.

Oh well.
