Hi Peter,

Yes, it is possible but you have to use something like Keyboard Maestro or 
QuicKeys to accomplish this. You'd need to mouse down on the clip and relocate 
the mouse pointer to the timeline. Since there are no visible elements within 
the timeline itself, you'd have to create a macro to position the pointer in an 
appropriate position within the open window, presumably the center of the 
window while the track to which the file is being dragged is sized to fit the 
majority of the timeline height. All of this is doable but, for the trouble, 
it's essentially easier to import to a new track., in my opinion.
