Hi Gord,
One can either paste over in slip mode (a confusing choice of words) or move 
things later in Shuffle mode. Blending is not currently an option. I can see 
why it has never been an option in the past because it's problematic when two 
clips are combined into a new clip. Once that's done, they become a brand new 
clip and there are perhaps considerations for not having this feature. Still, 
I'd imagine it's the kind of thing that might someday be introduced. For now, 
it's fairly easy to do an offline bounce of two or more tracks and have it come 
up onto a new track.
