Protools is most certainly accessible. You  are in the right place!!!   Garage 
band is cool, but using protools and flo tools, which is a set of macros  
created to make the work flow a lot easier.  I learned the basics in protools 
by a group of instructors who are also visually impared.  It is an 8 week class 
for blimd individuals that will teach you the basic fundamentals. Let me know
