This could be a lot of work - or it could be an opportunity to
get a little bit of effort from all the "free technology"
communities. Free Geek could supply materials, Dorkbots could
supply artists, PLUG could arrange with Canonical/Ubuntu to pass
out thousands of Ubuntu disks (in jackets with PTP nodes listed).
The float could represent all the communities - working together.

Of course, if PTP wanted to do something really outstanding, we
could mesh the parade route with a couple dozen access points.
Maybe delivering only local content, so that provisioning would
be easier. A few megabytes of static content, describing the free
technology communities, giving the yearning masses something to
read on their laptops while they waited for the parade to start.
I have 2 or 3 WRT54G's that could be programmed for the effort.
Provisioning could be as simple as recruiting individuals to
spread out with access points and batteries, or else we could
recruit businesses along the route.
