Hi All,

First off, my name is Chris foster and I am a brand new Plextalk user in
Sacramento, CA> Second, thanks to Jeff for posting this exciting list of
proposed changes. Good ideas all of them. Lastly, does anyone know if
there is a change in the works to fix the bug when the current time is read.
As of now, the time is mistakenly read as 11 o 40 A.M. I know it's a little
thing, but it shure would be nice if it just said 11:40A M. Just my
thoughts. Regards, Chris in Sacramento, California

Subject: PTR1 new firmware - summary of features

Plextor anticipates releasing in June a new firmware version for the
Plextalk PTR1. I know a number of you have already seen the list of firmware
enhancements at the Plextalk website. However, I thought it would be
helpful to post this for all the rest of us. This list came from the
American pages at www. Plextalk.com.

Summary of features in new Plextalk firmware, June 2004

* Easy Fast Rewind and Forward Feature Added
When you press and hold fast rewind and forward for a while, it continues
fast rewind/forward
until you press the play key.
* Low Battery Warning Feature Added
With the existing firmware, when the battery gets low the unit automatically
shuts
down without any warnings to prevent any recording or memory failures. With
the new
firmware, users will receive a one minute low battery warning , this way,
users can
choose to plug the unit into an electrical outlet or stop the recording
before the
unit automatically shuts down.
* Capacity Announcement Feature Added
The existing firmware announces the recordable time when a user wants to
know the
data space. However, a data space in GB or MB is useful instead of
recordable time
since many users are using high capacity memory cards. New firmware will
guide the
remaining data volume in MB instead of recordable time as well as data
volume of
title.
* Time Jump Navigation Feature Added
The time jump is added in the navigations. You can select one or ten minutes
jump
by 2 or 8 key and jump 4 or 6 key to quickly reach a specific page.
* Selecting waiting sounds or a tone
With new firmware users can select 3 difference waiting sounds (Musical
waiting sound
a single tone or No sound).
* Changed The Playback Behavior
The existing firmware automatically jumps to the beginning of a new title
when a
current title comes to an end. New firmware does not jump to the beginning
of a new
title, user must do it manually to prevent overwriting the original
recordings.
* Enhanced MP3 playback on the memory card
The existing firmware can not play MP3 files in the PC card. New firmware
allows
playback of MP3 files in the PC card
* Changed MP3 or CD-DA playback navigation
With the existing firmware, a user can go back to the previous music track
by pressing
key 4. The new firmware moves to the beginning of the track like standard CD
players.
* Fast Rewinding and Fast Forwarding sound level
With current firmware, the Fast Rewind and Fast Forward features create a
noise sound.
Thanks to our customers feedbacks we were able to make changes and with the
new firmware
these features will now have a calm sound level.
* No Voice Guide When changing The Main Volume Level
According to the users' feedbacks, it is not necessary to guide the playback
volume
while playing the disc. New firmware will not feature a volume level guide
when reading.
* Corrected Guidance For 5GB PCMCIA Type II Hard Disk Card
The existing firmware can only recognize 2GB cards for recording since the
calculation
comes from the limitation of maximum one audio file capacity as 2GB. New
firmware
will guide the whole available recording time and the remaining capacity.
* Page and Heading Number Guide For Recording or Editing
The existing firmware does not have page or heading guide numbers for when
the pages
or headings are marked. New firmware will offer these features.
