I would just use the Wiki to generate the content, and then consolidate it occasionally as part of the package distribution documentation ... with credits to contributors of course ! No of course I don't have access to any of the backups, etc ! (If I was paranoid I would just HTTP pull the "?action=raw" page source(s) from the server at regular intervals.)
