On some system HOST_SQUASHFS_TOOLS_INSTALL_OPT didn't get set properly so the image creation part breaks --- This new patch includes the suggestions from Michael. But the : removal on HOST_SQUASHFS_TOOLS_INSTALL_OPT is still necessary.
