Thanks for the information about the EMC, Jim. I may put in a submission
about the virtual malapportionment which arises from (especially) the Senate
ticket vote and the media treatment of PHON policies. The most crucial
media intervention, however, was that which reassured the electorate that
Meg Lees and the Democrats would not oppose GST, alerting me that Meg had
done an out-of-character preference deal with the Libs.
Incidentally, the Evans v Crichton-Browne case was 1982, not 1972. I was a
player at the time, being the WA Democrats' campaign director at the time.
In relation to the subverted internal democracy of the Democrats and the way
a junta dominated by senators, their spouses and staffers effectively
controls ticket preference decisions, read the material on my website at
>http://www.nettrek.com.au/~brian/#F . I have started speaking to some of
the 1993 players with a view to hyperlinking their names so that their own
versions can be communicated by email if they wish.
Interestingly, Andrew Bartlett (then a staffer of John Woodley) was present
at the disgraceful 1993 Brisbane meeting of the AD national executive. His
role then was merely that of a tea-boy or girl-friday, but his subsequent
progress tends to justify my assertions about clique behaviour and
subversion of the Democrats by 'single-issue' groups.
I haven't read his maiden speech but, if he points the finger at another
party, that tells you all you need to know about Andrew Bartlett (who also
took over the mantle of AD national campaign director)!

|What about the Alliance for Democracy? What is it doing for this inquiry?
