I reckon some dreamers in Oz are about to get a valuable lesson in Realpolitik - specially when they find that Uncle Sam and the UN are the real invaders that will occupy Australia militarily...permanently!   If the big bang occurs during the Olympic Games and "Muslim Fundamentalists" get the blame like Martin Bryant got the blame for the Israeli shoot-up at Port Arthur, maybe (but I doubt it) the "greatest race of idiots on the face of this earth, who vote with their money" (� John Elliott) may just wake up to what Treasury, the Corporate Media (including Auntie), and Tweedledum & Tweedledee have been using their taxation for over the years. Their consolation will be that they voted for what they get and, it just well could be; what the E. Timorese are getting right now - even if they are Pro-Commo - the leafy suburbs of Perth may get next. The herd still has not woken up to the fact that they have voted for their own enslavement and, probably never will wake up. The old commie trick is to make the "useful idiots" dig their own grave, then shoot the "useful idiots" and send the family the bill for the bullets - Australians prefer to vote for the same thing.   I notice too that the red brigade that howled about Oz troops in Vietnam, now howl to send in the troops. This time Oz blokes are not shooting up reds but, protecting the reds; very interesting. Reports vary as to the death toll 250 to 500 thousand within this 24 year period. These figures precede the UN election farce since then its anyones guess at the death toll but it would make any comparison with the Balkans look  amatureish.    When these boys get busy killing they don't stop for breakfast or even rape, if the fancy takes them they will rape the dead anytime and if hunger creeps up, they are not adverse to a bit of emergency cannibalism either. Some may say I am being a little racist or a lot. I have spent ten years living, traveling and dealing in East Asia.  Many of my good friends are Asian but friends can accept their differences they don't hide them. The Rape of Nanking or the Killing Fields of Cambodia or Mao's Cultural War are all totally different to the European idea of genocide.  Most Europeans think of the Concentration camps or the demise of the American Indian and say genocide, but they miss the differences call one civilised genocide if you like. I fully accept one murder is just as bad as another,  but the civilised European genocide gives exemptions to some due to usefullness. Maybe as people are more plentiful in Asia there are no exemptions, doctors, teachers, engineers, writers they all get the chop. They rarely even keep a list, the panga or the bayonet is cheaper than bullets or gas.    Please forgive me, I have digressed a little, the point is if no one goes in and stops the killing as the Vietnamese did in Cambodia, there would soon be no East Timorese left. The lady seems to be oblivious to the reality she talks about humiliation and poverty of colonisation by the Portugese and Australians, they have had 24 years of the Indonesian version and it was a lot tougher version. Now its not poverty or humiliation its sudden death, it takes your breath away, it takes your head off thats a little humilation in itself.   John Donne  the 17 century poet, philosopher and  evangelist wrote " Each man is required to oppose the injustices, the greed and selfish ambitions of others". The East Timorese are our neighbours, in many ways they have suffered for us, for if they were not there as a barrier we would have been  one step closer to Indonesia, if it was'nt the Timorese and the Papuans getting the chop from the Indonesians it would be Australians. They have died  and lost their country in what would have been our place. Most thinking Australians  who know anything about the expansionist philosophy of the Indonesian Moslems have concluded that Thirty years ago.  They have been like Cassandra warning, completly unheeded by the government. The Government, both political parties have been paying the Danegeld (see poem by Rudyard Kipling) giving Military Aid, eleven million a year, Patrol Boats, Nomads planes, training there Special Forces "Kopassas" training  helicopter pilots. The blood of the East Timorese people is fairly and squarely on the hands of our politicains. If anyone gets tried for war crimes it should be them.   Information supplied by Australian Intelligence Units as they spied on East Timorese supporters in Australia was eagerly passed on to Indonesian intellegence groups working in Australia. As of last week the Australian Army was still training Indonesian soldiers in New South Wales.   Our politicians have compounded their crimes by running down our defences to a pitiful state which will cost the lives of many if not all of our Armed Forces that meet the Indonesians, They have melted down our Strategic Reserve of Arms sold off our defence industries, and disarmed our civilian population.   Many Australians do not even know where Timor is yet, some think its on the other side of the planet, most do not realise that their national border meets ours. We have no international water between us. It is unfortunate that War is the greatest instructor and teacher of all time but it comes at such a heavy price, for many a cost more expensive than life itself. I am a family man of 51 years, its a long time since I humped my pack for thirty miles a day in the Grenadier Guards, I am desperately trying to get fit, (still eating to much) as I had a spinal injury last year which put me in hospital and I spent four months or so inspecting the ceiling. I am walking now almost running, not quite dancing but if they asked me to go to Timor to-morrow to defend the Timorese my only delay would be to take the storage oil out of my rifle barrel.   Ron Owen.
