Thought for the day:
"This book documents a scandal of global proportions - the export of banned pesticides from the industrial countries to the third world. Massive advertising campaigns by multinational pesticide corporations (Dow, Shell, Chevron etc.) have turned the third world into not only a booming growth market for pesticides, but also a dumping ground. Dozens of pesticides too dangerous for unrestricted use in the USA are shipped to underdeveloped countries. There, lack of regulation, illiteracy, and repressive working conditions can turn even a "safe" pesticide into a deadly weapon.

According to the WHO (World Health Organisation), someone in the underdeveloped world is poisoned by pesticides every minute. But we are victims too. Pesticide exports create a vicious circle of poison, disabling workers in American chemical plants, and later returning to us in the food we import. Drinking a morning coffee or enjoying a luncheon salad, the American consumer is eating pesticides banned or restricted in the USA, but legally shipped to the third world. The USA is among the world's top food importers and 10% of our imported food is officially rated as contaminated. ("The Circle of Poison" by David Weir & Mark Shapiro 1981, pp. 3, The Institute for Food and Development Policy)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And as a result of Free Trade, you cannot stop such products entering Australia (or America) and being marketed against home ground products. And because they are grown overseas with no regulations or restrictions, they will inevitably have a lower unit cost (even before taking into account exchange rate differences) and thus will progressively drive out of business local regulated competitors. And we, the consumer end up consuming such contaminated products completely unawares.

The Judges Gay Parade

Friday's Australian published an article by homosexual High Court judge Michael Kirby called "Homophobic clergy rain on the parade." It was based on a speech he made at the expensive Catholic boys' school, Riverview. At the time, I wondered how parents who fork out big bickies for their sons' education at a Catholic school would have taken it.

It turns out they were outraged, with many ringing to complain. As well, many of the boys felt they'd been used as pawns in Kirby's on-going battle with the churches. The school has a group called the Hot Potato Club which invites speakers to address the members. Kirby was invited to speak on social justice issues, but the whole address was devoted to promoting tolerance of homosexuality.

GST farce

The Australian Tax Office is getting very worried that so few businesses have registered for the GST. So extra taxpayers' money will be spent on yet another advertising campaign to scare people into registering for their Australian Business Numbers (ABNs). No number means businesses will be hit with the punitive 48.5 per cent tax.

Costello, he of the manic eyes, got heavy saying, "If you are not registered by July 1, you are in the black economy, and this tax cracks down on the black economy - that's the whole idea of it."

What a pathetic joke the man is. Surely even he knows that the black economy flourishes after the introduction of a GST. Why would Australia be any different?

Police state?

It was a bit scary to read how police in full riot gear attacked a group of journalists covering John Howard's Perth trip. The police were there to keep an eye on some 300 protesting unionists. The police had already charged into them in an attempt to move them from the footpath outside the new WA Chamber of Commerce  building which Howard was to open. After they ASKED, the protestors moved to the opposite side of the street. Funny that.

When Howard arrived the police charged the journalists, leaving the protestors alone. Two cameramen were knocked to the ground. The police said it was the journalists' fault for not wearing identification tags. Of course! Everybody carries around TV cameras and mikes - how could the police tell they were journos?

Howard's latest bilge

The WA incident was rather nasty, especially after reading Howard's most recent bilge. In the Weekend Australian he was rabbiting on about how Australia has never enjoyed such peace and prosperity as in the 1990s.

You know, they say weather forecasters should look out the window to check before they read the forecast. It'd be embarrassing to forecast a fine day if it was raining outside. It's a pity Howard doesn't look around before he insults people with nonsense about prosperity. The government can churn out all figures under the sun proving Australia's prosperity, but Australia is still in a mess.

Howard was back on his old hobby-horse about critics being just envious, " ... globalisation can be disconcerting and unsettling for individuals who are adversely affected by the changes ... Such Australians can feel left behind, resentful and even envious." No, mate, it's anger at what's being done to the country actually. Resentment is for cry-babies and that's not the mood of the nation. You are very badly briefed.

And of course we can't forget the solution to all the problems is the social coalition. If it seems sort of contradictory that a country enjoying record "peace and prosperity" should need a social coalition, well ... who can fathom the prime ministerial mind ....??  Howard's social coalition is nothing but charity. People want paid work, not charity.

One of the problems with this country is that politicians rely on economic and social data collected by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, and they in their turn get much of their statistics from other agencies and departments.

What I have found is that the figures produced are glaringly in error in cases, with bases of calculation changed at least once every ten years or so, so the basis of long run comparison (30 -40 years) becomes a task that is extremely difficult for those without the raw data.

Additionally when ever you phone up there, you would immediately thing you were in the USA given the prevalence of American accents you hear.

So what is going on with the ABS?

In Stalin's Russia the worker was according to official statistics living longer, eating better, working less, enjoying a higher standard of living with increased access to consumer goods year after year, while the reality was the average worker was living less, eating worse, working more, while having to put up with shoddy goods (and after queuing for hours even to get them). In reality the country suffered from cognitive dissonance for so long that they ultimately dulled, the revolutionary spark died and ultimately the society imploded. The reality was so different from the feel good images that Russia became two countries in one.

George Orwell, in his classic Animal Farm, made it clear how totalitarian regimes managed to become perpetuating. In this book, the pigs (intelligent animals), took control of all reading, writing, producing official statistics, interpreting the past and the current etc. As a result what had happened in the past was whatever the current situation required that the past had shown. The past was continuously rewritten to conform to today's needs. The same is now true in Australia. Many people of the older generations believe seriously that the country was better economically, socially and politically 20, 30 or 40 years ago. Yet impressive official statistics are continuously dragged up to show that this couldn't be, that we are better, wealthier, working less, eating better today than ever before. Lies, Lies and damned Statistics.

Like the Russians of yesteryear, many Australians are now suffering from the same cognitive dissonance from hearing so many lies which bear no relationship to the outside reality. Like Antonia said, the politicians (& the bureaucrats) in Canberra need to realise that even if the sun is shinning out of their collective proverbials, the rest of the country is covered by doom and gloom of a never-ending downpour of cold hard reality. And we are not grateful for the experience.

True efficiency

Contrast Howard's miserable beliefs about leaving people on charity with what most Australians believe. Stretton makes the point very clearly, " ... suppose Telstra manages to provide marginally better or cheaper services to its customers by means which add twenty or thirty thousand of them to the numbers already unemployed, and make many of its remaining employees more mobile and less secure in their jobs or their home addresses.

"It will be absurd to say that those changes made Telstra, or the national economy, more efficient. If the purposes which the economy ought to serve - which the democracy wants it to serve - include full employment, job security for competent workers who want it, a high minimum wage, a continuing reduction of inequality, and the option for most workers and their families of durable friendships and school attachments, then efficiency should be a measure of how well the economy serves all those purposes." (Hugh Stretton, "Poor laws of 1834 and 1996", Quadrant, December, 1996, p.9-18)

Stretton continued, "Of course that requires value judgements about the relative importance of the various purposes - but so, with a vengeance, do the current measures of efficiency which count only money costs of production or the market value of out-put per head."

Remember this man is an economist too. So much for the 'inevitability' of current policies.

Lies, all lies.

It's a bit depressing to remember that Australia used to have what these economic rationalist morons claim to have delivered - a peaceful and prosperous society. Are they liars? They must be, just look at the promises and the reality of financial deregulation.  Keating, the World's Greatest Creep - oops - Treasurer claimed financial deregulation would:

* Open up mortgage finance to poor home-buyers. Lie.
* Lower bank charges and profits. Very big lie.
* Increase funds to Australian industry. Two lies: it didn't, and industry
is disappearing.
* Stabilise the exchange rate. Lie.

To put it mildly, that's a lousy performance. Surely a case could be made to make Keating pay back all his taxpayer-funded loot. Or at least to stop paying the creep any more of OUR hard-earned money. There must be a way to stop paying ex-politicians. Nobody else gets paid when they leave their jobs, let alone when they get kicked out (by the people) for incompetence.

Senate Investigation of Health Canada
Has Health Canada Committed Contempt of Parliament? Senate Hearings (Committee on Privileges, Standing Rules and Orders) Date: Tuesday Feb 29, 2000  6:00 p.m.

Witness: David Dodge, Deputy Minister of Health
Location: Rm. 505, Victoria Bldg, 140 Wellington Street

Background
The Senate Committee on Privileges, Standing Rules and Orders is investigating claims that Health Canada has retaliated against its own scientists, who previously testified before the Senate and provided incriminating evidence against the department.
One scientist, Dr. Shiv Chopra, was suspended for 5 days without pay.  Other scientists reported that they were pressured to "sanitise" government reports and coerced to pass drugs of questionable safety.

The scientists state they were ordered to "tow the line" and serve industry or they would be sent somewhere they "will never be heard from again."  The scientists are concerned that public safety is at risk.

On Tuesday, Feb. 29, the Senate Committee on Privileges, Standing Rules and Orders will be questioning David Dodge, Deputy Minister of Health, on these issues.

Hearings Open to the Public - Everyone Invited
Support Health Canada whistle-blowers, whose efforts to protect the public have put them at odds with industry pressure to get their product on the market as quickly as possible.

Could there be a similarity with Australian authorities (unauthorised by the public) allowing GMOs into our food supply and on to farms without proper testing????? Far fetched?? Worth investigating, Legal Eagles.
Have a nice weekend

Political Perks

Every party politician who gets elected to a 'safe' seat will receive a  minimum $2 million when he/she retires.  Leaders will pocket some $5 million.  On top of that all party politicians go on fruitless annual overseas junkets costing taxpayers $billions.  (Shades of Mal Colston and Jim-boy Soorley!)
If the Family Party is a success many of them will lose out on their unearned perks and golden nest-egg.  This is why we must focus on issues about which the average Australian constantly feels a sense of outrage.  The Family Party must become the focal point for this outrage and make indolent politicians the target of community ire. At present they dwell in the comfort of their positions and don't give a damn for the groundswell of public opinion.  They will spread lies and get uneducated morons to hound us, just like they did to Pauline Hanson and just like they did 2,000 years ago when Jesus threatened their nice little earner.  They are indeed political pariahs.
In May 1997, Jocelyn Newman stood up in parliament and said church leaders were quite happy with the fact she allocated only $975 million (out of a total revenue of $133.3 billion) to Public Housing.  I have long held the view that the term 'god' does not define love, but compassion.  Since the corrupt clergy have never held compassion for anyone but themselves you can be sure 'god' will not be found in any church on this planet.

In the last twenty-six years (1972-1998), with the aid of the Australian Democrats, the Welfare lobby, the ABC, Citizens Murdoch and Packer, the religionists and the traitorous educators, party politicians have raped the Australian community.  (No keeping the bastards honest here).  Their policies of penuricide killed and are still killing many defenceless Australians. They have refined their policies of removing children from families by also removing fathers. The record speaks for itself:
* Over 900,000 broken marriages.
* 600,000  (white And coloured) children living in poverty.
* 50,000 children suffering child abuse.
* 20,000 children homeless (mainly from broken homes).
* Six young Australians commit suicide every day. (How many are being fed heroin in Beattie's brothels?)
* Families who own their home outright - less than ten per cent of all families.
* 22,000 families on waiting list for Public Housing in Queensland - funding for only 560 houses in 1998-99. 600 Housing Commission homes standing idle. (see Paper on The Family Party)

Ordinary Australians should get one thing clear - The Family Party might become a threat to present political and bureaucratic skulduggery - but we must not be afraid to speak about what we will do for the cheated and oppressed families. The Family Party should also look at what corrupt educators and politicians are doing to our children:
The majority of school leavers cannot read or write properly.
Most children need a calculator for even the most simple addition.

Although the charter for education provides for every child to receive a  'full and comprehensive' education - our corrupt education administrators make sure the majority of our children remain unimaginative and ignorant.

This makes it easy for politicians, judges and their ilk to abuse their power and eliminate any danger (The Family Party) to their position - but their day may well come soon!

Feedback:
Is Duck Hunting only for people with a darker skin tone?

Recently a campaign has been instituted by radical extremists who have gained power within the normally benevolent RSPCA to ban the tradition of seasonal self controlled Duck Hunting. Even on land or swamps that have been maintained, bought and paid for by the Duck Hunters themselves. The extremists are ignoring all relevant logical details, such as that unless the ducks are culled and put to good use (eaten) that farmers would increasingly be forced to resort to baiting and netting, which is unspecific and totally wasteful of the resource.

It is an established principle of Australian / English Law that every person in the nation is equal under the same Law. As the High Court made the decision in the famous Yanner v Eaton Case where a person who claimed descent from the people who used to inhabit parts of Australia prior to Captain Cooks claim for the Crown, had a traditional right to hunt and to the ownership of what he hunted, which then naturally gave him the right to eat what he had succeeded to hunt. If this is the Law for one man, it has to be the law for all men. Either all men have a traditional right to hunt or they all don’t. No matter what colour their skin is or the colour of the skin of their Great Grandfathers. Black or White, all our ancestors had to hunt to survive 200 years ago or 3000 years ago.

Duck Hunting or any type of Hunting is a pursuit which is as old as men have walked this earth, it is not a tradition for some and not for others, as all our ancestors took part in this pursuit or starved themselves into extinction.

The Hunting of feral animals has been established in Common Law for centuries and this legal precedent was referred to in the Yanner High Court Decision, by Lord Westbury in Blades v Higgs,

".........when it is said by writers on the Common Law of England that there is a qualified or special right of property in game, that is in animals Ferae Naturae which are fit for food of man, whilst they continue in their wild state, I apprehend that the word ‘property’ can mean no more than the exclusive right to catch, kill and appropriate such animals which is sometimes called by law a reduction of them into possession."

Our Association believes that all Australians are equal before the Law irrespective of their skin colour and regardless of who their great grandfathers were. This famous High Court decision enshrining Australians right to hunt and eat game must stand for all Australians or none of them. If just one Australian of a pale skin colour is charged under the RSPCA proposed legislation, and the High Courts Yanner judgement is not applied by the Magistrate in an equal manner, then a formal complaint will be issued to the Anti Discrimination Commission that the defendant is being vilified by racists who seek to discriminate between hunters on the grounds of skin colour.

Dick Smith's Buy Australia Campaign
Neil,

I have just purchased a jar of Dick Smith's Peanut Butter and what can I say. It taste's just like peanut butter! Fancy that. It is produced by an Australian company most people know, Greens in Seven Hills (NSW).

Dick's next projects include Ozemite, Helicopter Jelly, and tomato sauce. Helicopter Jelly should be out soon, but apparently Dick is having trouble finding an all Australian manufacturer for his Ozemite, as the only manufacturer of yeast spreads in Australia is owned by foreign company Philip Morris (tobacco company).

I've heard some people on talkback radio express there dislike of Dick Smith, but as far as I'm concerned, who cares! He is promoting Australian business, jobs, and manufacturing industry. Something the government has failed to do. Note that on the side of the jar is says "A substantial proportion of the profits of Dick Smith Foods go to Australian charities and other important causes."

Good on ya, Dick!

Let us know what you think. Feedback is important. Comments on articles read would be of value. Do you agree / disagree? Can you add more or a different perspective. Your contributions are greatly appreciated.

Send this email on to as many as you can. The more that read it the merrier. In time email communication will make government censorship impractical and the newspapers will have to start reporting it as it really is, rather than the smoke and mirrors tricks they currently indulge in, or loose readership, and therefore advertising monies. While we have a long way to go before that happens, each epic journey must start with a single step.

Lets go to it.
