It seems that I was wrong about the missing D-Bus signal. Apparently it's
expected behaviour that bluetoothd sends no state updates for the transport
object, and in fact the whole transport object is fiction created by PulseAudio
in order to make A2DP and HSP look more similar. I don't see anything else in
Brandon's logs that would give any clues, so the only hint is now what Luiz
said on the linux-bluetooth thread: "perhaps your controller is not set for HCI
routing?"

I don't know what "set for HCI routing" means.
