Sounds like a bug at a lower level than pulseaudio, but before reporting this
to the alsa developers, can you try if you can reproduce the problem without
pulseaudio? If you don't know how to do that, attach the output of "pactl list"
and "cat /proc/asound/cards" when things are working, I'll give more
instructions after that.
