Hey guys,
I remember bringing this up with MPT way back. He wasn't so keen on
changing his design to accommodate / flag an overdriven state. But he
came up with this suggestion.
What would be most satisfying overall, then, is if we could offer easy
access to >100% volumes only to people for whom it will do more good
than harm. The wiki page refers to "devices that have PA_SINK_
DECIBEL_VOLUME/PA_SOURCE_DECIBEL_VOLUME set". If these devices are a
small minority of those that Ubuntu runs on, then that's a promising way
forward: we can show the extended slider (with red >100% section) for
those devices, and the normal slider otherwise.
Is this a valild approach ?
With regards the different ways of exposing +11db amplification I would
go the way of number 4. Where / which UI should this belong to though
(GVC or actually on the menu itself) ?
4. In the UI, add a checkbox saying "Give me 11 dB more!" (or "Ultra
PulseAudio(R) Boost(TM)" ;-) ) and if enabled, both the UI and the
media keys go up to +11 dB. That would at least keep the two consistent.
