Okay I tried sound recording natively (no VMware involved) on Ubuntu 9.10
host with PulseAudio version 0.9.16 and ALSA version 1.0.20 and the
problem still persists.
I'll update with findings on the more recent Ubuntu 10.04 Alpha.
