Issue #1736 has been updated by luke.

It won't be possible to do multi-character, but you should be able to add short 
letters now, as long as they weren't conflicting.

Just add :short => "char" to each default setting.

I find myself using a number of the command-line options to puppetd that don't 
have abbreviations, for example --no-daemonize and --ignorecache.

If we can settle on single-letter representations of every option it would be 
very handy.
