Zachary Smith created an issue   Puppet / PUP-5931 puppet config print does not work if you are not the master Issue Type: Bug Affects Versions: PUP 4.2.2 Assignee: Unassigned Created: 2016/02/19 11:44 AM Priority: Normal Reporter: Zachary Smith One of our support engineers sent the following to a customer: curl --cert $(puppet config print hostcert) \ --key $(puppet config print hostprivkey) \ --cacert $(puppet config print cacert) \ https://$(puppet config print certname):4433/rbac-api/v1/groups Deleting the group id curl --request DELETE \ --cert $(puppet config print hostcert) \ --key $(puppet config print hostprivkey) \ --cacert $(puppet config print cacert) \ https://$(puppet config print certname):4433/rbac-api/v1/groups/<your-group-id-here> This failed as when running from a node thats not the master it can;t find the environment sudo puppet config print certname /opt/puppetlabs/puppet/lib/ruby/vendor_ruby/puppet/environments.rb:38:in `get!': Could not find a directory environment named 'PE_production' anywhere in the path: /etc/puppetlabs/code/environments. Does the directory exist? (Puppet::Environments::EnvironmentNotFound) from /opt/puppetlabs/puppet/lib/ruby/vendor_ruby/puppet/application_support.rb:29:in `push_application_context' from /opt/puppetlabs/puppet/lib/ruby/vendor_ruby/puppet/application.rb:337:in `run' from /opt/puppetlabs/puppet/lib/ruby/vendor_ruby/puppet/util/command_line.rb:128:in `run' from /opt/puppetlabs/puppet/lib/ruby/vendor_ruby/puppet/util/command_line.rb:72:in `execute' from /usr/local/bin/puppet:5:in `<main>' this command does work curl --cert $(puppet agent --configprint hostcert) \ --key $(puppet agent --configprint hostprivkey) \ --cacert $(puppet agent --configprint cacert) \ https://$(puppet agent --configprint certname):4433/rbac-api/v1/groups Deleting the group id curl --request DELETE \ --cert $(puppet agent --configprint hostcert) \ --key $(puppet agent --configprint hostprivkey) \ --cacert $(puppet agent --configprint cacert) \ https://$(puppet agent --configprint certname):4433/rbac-api/v1/groups/<your-group-id-here> But the error is not great and its not intuitive whats going on. At this version of puppet this command only functional works on the master as it has the environment on disk. I am sure it likely works with production set too as there is that fail over code if production does not exist. To be clear this is when you have the environment set in puppet.conf ( not NC ) and its in the main section.
