Issue #19058 has been reported by Andrew Parker.

----------------------------------------
Feature #19058: Deprecate the method syntax for variables in ERB templates
https://projects.puppetlabs.com/issues/19058

Author: Andrew Parker
Status: Accepted
Priority: Normal

Category:
Target version:
Affected Puppet version:
Keywords: deprecation template
Branch:

At the moment ERB templates have 2 ways of accessing variables in the current
scope. One is to use the ruby instance variable syntax (`@variable`) the other
is to use the local var/method call syntax (`variable`). The second syntax has
many problems and can be dangerous to use in certain circumstances.

We need to deprecate the method call syntax and remove it in a later version.
In addition the style guide and template docs need to be updated to make clear
that the instance variable syntax is preferred.
