Issue #22375 has been updated by Josh Cooper.

>From Russell Miller:

I ran into this same issue. Attached is a file that caused this to happen.

I used the following steps:

Deployed the file using a file {} type. Then I set purge => true. Then I
removed the file from the module. At that point it attempted to filebucket the
file before removal and errored out with the same error as above. Memory spiked
to half the VM and then immediately freed after the regex overflow error
occurred. Setting backup => false solved the problem. It’s actually even the
right thing to do in this case, but obviously the issue is still there.

This is under my personal email, but Reid knows how to get hold of me under my
corporate email account if further info is needed.

<pre>
    file { "/&lt;location>/bin":
            ensure => directory,
            owner => <user>,
            group => <user>,
            source => "puppet:///modules/&lt;modulename>/bin",
            recurse => true,
            purge => true,
            backup => false
    }
</pre>

This is a duplicate of bug #8229, which I accidentally deleted.

When uploading files using puppet inspect I often get this on the managed node
side of the equation:
