The namevar is an alias, a non-unique entry, when the IP address has uniqueness. For instance: host { '127.0.0.1': name => '127.0.0.1', host_aliases => ['localhost', 'localhost4'], ip => '127.0.0.1', } host { '::1': name => '::1', host_aliases => ['localhost', 'localhost6'], ip => '::1', } {code] ... seems to work better with a unique namevar. It's a little more verbose and the 'ip' parameter becomes redundant as far as I can tell. This would obviously cause breakage, though.
