I used to have the same problem, at first I just turned off the screensaver 
everytime I booted in (check http://dev.dynebolic.org/changeset/184 and search 
for 'screensaver') but I think later I simply solved the problem by running 
xorg-config to configure my video-card. It might be worth a try if the other 
options don't work... and I guess when the new p:d arrives it shouldn't be an 
issue anymore :)
