sorry i'm not going to be much help i think - am just reporting back the
results
of some googleing i did on your chip...

i think its the ymfpci module needed for this card:
 http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Matrix:Module-ymfpci

it seems that this module is present on my system at least :

r...@puredyne:~/sextet-for-flutes/temp$ locate ymf

/lib/modules/2.6.24.7-rt21-pure-686/kernel/sound/pci/ymfpci
/lib/modules/2.6.24.7-rt21-pure-686/kernel/sound/pci/ymfpci/snd-ymfpci.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.26-1-686/kernel/sound/pci/ymfpci
/lib/modules/2.6.26-1-686/kernel/sound/pci/ymfpci/snd-ymfpci.ko
/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.24.7-rt21-pure-686/include/config/snd/ymfpci
/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.24.7-rt21-pure-686/include/config/snd/ymfpci.h
/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.24.7-rt21-pure-686/include/config/snd/ymfpci/firmware
/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.24.7-rt21-pure-686/include/config/snd/ymfpci/firmware/in
/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.24.7-rt21-pure-686/include/config/snd/ymfpci/firmware/in/kernel.h
/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.24.7-rt21-pure-686/include/sound/ymfpci.h
/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.24.7-rt21-pure-686/sound/pci/ymfpci
/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.24.7-rt21-pure-686/sound/pci/ymfpci/Makefile

can you do a:

lsmod|grep snd
and paste the results back here
