maybe you dont have sudo command? I do not know if Fedora is using sudo to 
execute commands as superuser(root) 

try su - give the *root* password and then you are root. At this prompt try 
aptitude update. If this doesnt work try apt-get update instead.

Again i think you have no sudo command. Maybe I am wrong.
