OK, well if you still have patience (!) then I have another suggestion! I'm about to send a mail to the list about an updated version of jack. I don't have firewire so I have no way of knowing if it fixes your problems but it includes a package called jack-firewire which provides fw backends.
In my other mail there will be instructions on how to do it. It's experimental but who knows it may just fix you...?
