I think I remember something about this -- I started with puredyne 9.10, which 
ships with Emacs-like key bindings enabled for all applications. Really annoyed 
me at first. I think this was changed sometime later.

Anyway, have a look at this: Main menu (Swiss knife icon) > Settings > Settings 
Editor. Then choose xsettings at left, expand Gtk in the property list and look 
for KeyThemeName. If it isn't set to Default, change it and see if it makes a 
difference. I don't remember if it was necessary to log out and log back in 
again.

If that's not it, then... I don't know :(
