Thanks for the prompt response. I'm guessing since an I/O server went
down, we would only lose the pvfs file data, right? since the metadata
is stored on a different metadata server that is up and running.

Hi Nikhil,

If you are running PVFS and a server goes down, you lose *access* to  
the metadata and data on that file server. Sometimes there are pieces  
of the file system that are still available, depending on what server  
died and what metadata it controlled.

Assuming the disks are ok, restarting the server will return  
availability.

The cluster as a whole should not be otherwise impacted by a server  
failure.
