Jim,

Just a clarification. the kernel version in which I am seeing deadlock
problems is 3.5.10, much later than the version in which you are interested.
You should be fine with kernel versions up to, but not including, 3.4.

Thanks,

Elaine

Jim,

I am not sure about the 3.0.60 kernel. There are some deadlock problems with
the OrangeFS kernel module with later versions of the kernel. This is on my
list of things to do, but it has taken a back burner for a little while.

As far as upgrading from OrangeFS 2.8.5 to 2.8.7, there are no conversions
required and the upgrade should be straightforward with only a short outage
required for restarting the server processes.

Thanks,

Elaine

Subject: [Pvfs2-users] Kernel 3.0.60 support?

Hi all:

I'm running Rocks 6.0, which is based on CentOS 6. There's an issue with
the kernel supplied in CentOS that hinders performance in many areas
(including network throughput). One of the suggestions is upgrading to a
3.0.60 kernel.

Will OrangeFS 2.8.7 build well against the 3.x kernel series? Any known
issues I should be aware of?

Also, my OrangeFS servers are currently running 2.8.5, and I plan to upgrade
them to 2.8.7 as well. Are there any issues or conversions required? I
would rather not plan on a quick change over and restart pvfs2 only to find
its going to be converting/processing for a few hours before coming online.
If its going to take some time, I need to schedule a chunk of downtime...

Thanks!
