Yes that would be a bit extreme. The reason I thought of the HTTPAdaptor
thing was that (I think) someone once referred to having like zillions of
those inspectors open.

Not unless someone closes the socket explicitly. Which makes me wonder if
perhaps we should always close a socket where the other end is closed. Any
comments?!

Agreed. What I could do is modifying the VM a bit so that it spits out
information about opening/closing/using sockets. That might help getting
more info for this particular problem. I'll code something up and keep you
posted.
