I haven't had this problem with the "?" links. I assume this is because I don't
create a page until the first editing is complete. I've always wondered why swiki
creates pages before then. Is there an advantage to early creation that I'm missing?

p.s. of course the button solution will save some traffic at the server which could
matter when being pounded by an inconsiderate robot
