It seems to me that a "don't send e-mail alerts" check-box might be 
useful for addressing both 1) and 2). Are other people interested in that?


As far as 3), you can do that using the swiki browser.

Check out:
http://minnow.cc.gatech.edu/swiki/35
for starting the SwikiBrowser.

Click on refs -- 1st panel
Click on templates (page) -- 2nd panel
Click on editText -- 4th panel

Change "rows=20 cols=70" to something larger.
Save changes (Alt-s).

Done.
