The following forum message was posted by dennisobrien at

So far all of my attempts to install PyDev on Eclipse have failed. I cannot
find any meaningful error log or messages to provide any clues to the failure.
I am not an expert in the Eclipse plugin system, so please bear with me.

Setup:
Windows 7 64-bit
Eclipse 3.5.2
Other plugins: Adobe Flash Builder 4.0.0, Subclipse 1.6.10. CDT 6.0.2

Here\'s a rough outline of my steps:
[ol]
[li]Make sure any previous version of PyDev is uninstalled.[/li]
[li]Add PyDev\'s update site http://pydev.org/updates[/li]
[li]Select PyDev for Eclipse. Next. Finish. (BTW, version is
1.5.7.2010050621)[/li]
[li]Install proceeds. Security warning about unsigned content. OK.[/li]
[li]Restart eclipse.[/li]
[li]No PyDev tab in Preferences. PyDev does show up in the list of Installed
Software but it has no entries in the Features or Plug-ins tab of Eclipse
Installation Details.[/li]

I\'ve also tried installing via the zip file
org.python.pydev.feature-1.5.7.2010050621.zip and pointing to the zip for for a
local archive.
Also I\'ve tried unzipping org.python.pydev.feature-1.5.7.2010050621.zip to
D:/eclipse/dropins (so that dropins has a features and plugins directory) but
this also has not worked.

There is nothing interesting in the log file. The configuration panel (the
text pane in Eclipse Installation Details -> Configuration) has references to
pydev but again, nothing that looks obviously wrong to me.

Are there tests I can run to figure out why PyDev is not getting instantiated?

Any help to get PyDev up and running would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,
Dennis

BTW, I don\'t know that it is relevant, but it strikes me as strange that my
Eclipse root folder is D:/eclipse (where I unzipped it) but I have many eclipse
files in C:/Users/[username]/.eclipse/ There are files that appear in both
locations. Is it possible that the plugin installation is going to one folder
but Eclipse is looking in another at startup?
