Thanks Richard. The two problems with video are that the images use transparency and are all different sizes within each sequence. The latter is fixable by padding each frame, but I don't know of any video codec that supports alpha[*], and I suspect even the best codec would mess with a chromakey. [*] OK, there are animated gifs. I will investigate avbin's support thereof. Also, I will be looping at least some sequences, so having those in video memory for a while makes sense, and I also want to rotate and shift the images, and possibly play with their framerates.
