Well apparently I'm the only one who even remotely cares about this, but in case someone ever browses the mailing list after me, the solution is to use glTranslate/glRotate and friends. Pyglet uses them internally anyway, so you're targeting OpenGL 2.1 anyway whether you like it or not.
Mysteriously, the Sprite class doesn't use these, but, whatever. This sort of BS is why I want to be using pyglet without dipping into OpenGL in the first place...
