Those are good points. It's not good to make things needlessly complex.

I've actually experimented with this in the past, using caching:

The results were good, but probably even more complex. 

I think I should also benchmark replacing the math.cos/sin calls with plain 
operations. Its likely faster that the overhead of calling the math module.
