Hi there!

First of all, since Chris is away this week Titus still doesn't seem to
be around I would say we haven't got enough things to discuss to
warrant a meeting on the 27th. Let us therefore set the date to a month
from the last meeting, i.e. to the 10th of February.

Secondly, I would like to propose trying out a collaboration tool
called EVO, developed in collaboration by Caltech and CERN, instead of
Skype. From my experience in high-energy physics, where EVO is the
primary communication tool, it tends to be much reliable than Skype
when more than two users are participate in a conference (especially
when they are far away network-wise), handles its bandwidth more
efficiently (this is particularly well-visible when video is used) and
offers more conferencing features, in particular something I have
often found very useful - a collaborative whiteboard. Last but not
least, it doesn't require any special software - all that is needed is
relatively recent (1.5.0 or newer) Java Runtime Environment. While I am
not suggesting us to switch to EVO right away, it would be interesting
to have you try it out and share your thoughts on the subject by
or during the next meeting. In order to get started quickly:
 - go to http://evo.caltech.edu/ ;
 - click "Register" to create an account;
 - click on "Start" to launch the application (the first time it is
   started it takes a while because all files must be downloaded and
   system properties detected, further on starts quite quickly),
   provide your account details when prompted;
 - once the main window has appeared, click on the Communities button
   (the one with multiple human silhouettes) near the bottom left
   corner, look for "Universe" (the general EVO community) and add it
   to your list. Note that this may be done automatically for
   recently-created accounts;
 - click on a meeting (i.e. the test one) to join it, the rest should
   be pretty self-explanatory. By the way, it usually makes sense to
   reduce your audio quality (once in a meeting, go to AV Settings ->
   Audio -> Advanced) from High to Medium - it can help a lot on slower
   network connections while still sounding better than Skype most of
   the time.

Best regards,
