Requiring Pg 8.0 in 4.1 and 8.2 in 4.2 would be a moderate pace.

Ok, that gives us some more time. On the DB-SIG list there is now a discussion again about a possible DB-API 3. One problem with DB-API 2 is that it does not define clearly enough how to deal with unicode, which is needed to properly implement a driver for Python 3. Pretty much the same problem as with WSGI. So maybe there will be a DB-API 3 or a DB-API 2.0.1 clarifying these issues. Another reason not to rush 5.0 but to concentrate on 4.1 first.
